Ramsey County Jail

Jail Layout

Interview with Jessica and Joe Smith

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Jessica: THE AREA I WAS IN ONLY HAD 2 BLOCKS.
Joe Smith: I'm not quite sure, I believe that it is for security purposes that they don't reveal the full layout of the jail.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Jessica: I DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAD NAMES. IF THEY DID I DID NOT ASK.
Joe Smith: Lettered pods. (a-Pod, D-pod, etc.)

JM: Which inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Jessica: I WAS IN A DIFFERENT BLOCK SO I COULD BE MONITORED, BUT I COULD SEE THE OTHER INMATES IN THE OTHER BLOCK.
Joe Smith: I believe that the only ones that were separated into specific blocks were the mentally ill inmates.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Jessica: THE PART I WAS IN WAS VERY QUIET AND CLEAN. THE OTHER PART SEEMED VERY LOUD ALL THE TIME.
Joe Smith: The only nice thing were the vending machines in each pod, other than that they were pretty gloomy and depressing places.
